Berkeley and her graduate degree from Chapman University, Orange, California. She is certified as an Alcoholism & Addictions Counselor by the University of Utah's Graduate School of Social Work in Salt Lake City.

It was later written into the Congressional Record as a model program for community alcoholism intervention and education.
Currently, she works as a family therapist at MPI Treatment Services, Alta Bates-Summit Medical Center in Oakland, California. She has a private practice in Berkeley.
